Music video conventions:
Codes and conventions are the use of different techniques used to construct a meaning in them.
Editing:
The pace of Reggaeton songs is very important, in music videos we can see how the illustration is at the same pace as the beats. Normally the time paces of the reggaeton are slower when you are “heartbroken” helping the audience to empathize with the singer we can see an example of this in the Pareja Del Año song. With the slow pace of the song, the editing is of long duration cuts, in some cases use of black and white effect giving even more dramatism to the song.
Mise en scene Props: Objects that function as parts of the sets or as tools used by the actors.
Lightning: It creates a visual mood, different colour palettes create different meanings to the audience.
Costume: Used to convey a character's personality or status, and to signify these differences between characters.
Location: Sets the audience on a place
Camera:
In music videos we can see the use of a variety of different camera shots, the use of different camera shots creates a different meaning to the audience of what they are seeing and listening to.
Long shot: shows the subject from a distance, emphasizing place and location
Extreme close up: allow the viewer to enter the character's personal space, revealing traits and emotions
Close up: Close-ups draw the audience's attention to the main characters and communicate the importance of their presence,
Medium shot: used to emphasize both the actor and their surroundings by giving them an equal presence on screen.
Camera movement:
Track camera: any shot in which the camera physically moves sideways, forward, or backward through the scene.
Dolly Camera: the camera moves towards, away from, or alongside your subject
Zoom: making a subject appear closer in an image.
Crane Camera: a shot taken by a camera on a moving crane
Camera Angles:
Over-the-shoulder shot
Low angle shot
High angle shot
Eye-level shot
Sound:
Diegetic: Diegetic sound is any sound that comes from the story world of the film. In the case of music videos, the sound is previously recorded.
Non-diegetic: Any type of sound that doesn’t come from the world of the film itself.
