Mise-en-Scene

Mise-en-Scene is everything placed on the stage or in front of the camera including people. In other words, mise-en-scene is a catch-all for everything that contributes to the visual presentation and overall “look” of a production.

The elements used in the locations help the director to express his thoughts generating a sense of time and space, as well as setting a mood and creating a connection between the actors and the audience. In this post I will analyse how I am going to attract and appeal to my audience, represent my artists, communicate the genre of my song, communicate a narrative and create a mood.

Attract and appeal to my audience:

As my song is a reggaeton hit I will start the music video with natural light and conclude the music video at night which is the moment in which reggaeton songs are usually being listened to at night in a party. I will use bright colours in the accurate moments of the song as Pareja Del Año song mood changes during the course of the song, it will start with a bright colour palette and will finish with a dark colour palette.

Representation of my Artists:

My artists would be represented as Young Millionaires with clothes of well recognised brands, mansion and luxury cars. This will give an image of the attitudes of my artists to the audience and how each setting represents different moods.

Communicate the genre of my song:

This would be represented following the typical codes and convention of reggaeton music videos, this would appear on my music video for example; Alcohol, luxurious cars, mansions luxurious clothes and sexualised women.

Communicate the narrative of my song:

Through the timeline of my music video we would see different types of scenes which link with the message of the song, this would help the audience to receive the message the artist is trying to portray with his lyrics.

Create a mood:

I will create a mood with different colour palettes through the course of the song, this will create a perception of the mood of the song continuously changing according to the lyrics.
