Yonaguni - Bad Bunny
Narrative:
The narrative of the song accompanies the music video as it expresses a feeling of isolation throughout the whole clip. In some parts, the music video amplifies the meaning as the lyrics match with the visual.
Representation: - Gender: Throughout the music video we mainly see the artist Bad Bunny, so most of the clip is of men representation however in some shots we can see the representation of women. Another connotation where men are represented is by Bad Bunny playing war video games (Call of Duty: Warzone) as war video games target audience is men.
- Ethnicity: In most of the scenes we can see white race representation as Bad Bunny the protagonist of the music video is from Puerto Rico, however in the first scene we can see asian representation in the restaurant.
- Class: Possibly the setting used in the video is of high class as we can see how he wakes up and has a big glaze to see the streets. Also the set up he has to play video games is for an upper class person.
- Age: Young target audience is being represented as we can see how Bad Bunny is playing video games and also playing with a Radio Control car.
Editing: It could be said that the visual representation of “Yonaguni” is a montage. This is due to the fact that it enables the directors to communicate a large amount of information to the audience in a relatively short period of time.
We can appreciate in the music video that it is predominated by long length of take which forces the viewer to fill into fill in the “blank spaces”.
Furthermore, the beat of the song matches perfectly the cuts throughout the frame.
Cinematography: The average duration time of each shot in Yonaguni is approximately 10s and the shots are always at eye-level angle. The types of shots being used are long (we can see how Bad Bunny doesn't take notice of the camera and acts natural), medium (in this shots we can see how Bad Bunny is looking towards the camera), close-up and over-the-shoulder (Bad Bunny doing his breakfast) shots where we can see the lifestyle of Bad Bunny.
MISE-EN-SCENE:
Lighting (most of the lightning during the music video is natural light, however the video clip starts on a Asian restaurant at night with the lamps of the restaurant), colours (cold palette), the performance through the clip is of Bad Bunny daylife, facial expression is of happiness and relax, body language doing (Karate) in the morning and relaxed and doing (karate), costumes (wokes up in underpants then he is most of the time in streets clothes until he do karate and he puts a kimono), setting is constantly changing we can see shots from his bed, car, asian restaurant, dojo where he practice Karate, streets and a set-up gaming room.
